Fayette, Mo. - The No. 4 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program completed its three-game home stand with a 2-1 victory over (RV) Benedictine College Saturday night at Davis Field.
The Eagles improve to 12-1-1 overall and remain at a perfect 8-0 in conference play. Benedictine drops to 9-2-4 and 4-1-3 in Heart play.
It also marks Central's 60th straight win at home when playing at Davis Field. CMU's last home loss came on Oct. 10, 2018.
As they have done all season, the Eagles scored early, as Mariana Barreto sent a cross in that found Kirstine Lykke in open space. With the BC goalkeeper off her line, Lykke tapped the ball into the back of the net for her team-leading 10th goal of the year to give CMU a 1-0 lead just nine minutes in.
In the 27th minute of play, a foul by Benedictine inside the box gave Central an opportunity at a penalty kick. Senior defender Alicia Zamora converted the PK, as she sent the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for her fifth goal of the year to extend CMU's lead to 2-0.
Benedictine scored less than three minutes later on a defensive miscue by CMU to cut the lead to 2-1, which wouldd prove to be the score at the halftime break.
Despite the early blunder, Central's defense finished the match holding Benedictine to just seven total shots, with only three coming frame. CMU fired off 25 total shots including seven shots on goal to earn a key victory in Heart play.
Central also tallied 13 total corner kicks compared to just one for Benedictine College.
Lykke finished the evening with seven shots to lead the offense, followed by Zamora with six and Lacey Ann Murray with four. Celine Witt and Barreto fired off three shots apiece.
Blanco earned her eighth win of the year, picking up two saves in a full 90 minutes in between the posts.
Central hits the road and will next face Park University Saturday, Oct. 21 at 12:00 p.m. in Parkville, Mo.
