Olathe, Kan. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Olathe, Kan.
With the win, CMU improves to 7-1-1 and 3-0 in the Heart of America, while MNU falls to 3-4-1 and 1-2 in conference action.
The Eagles trailed early in the match, as MNU scored in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Despite outshooting the Pioneers 9-3 in the first half, Central remained behind through the halftime break.
CMU's offense came alive in the second half, as Celine Witt scored in the 54th minute with the assist coming from Mariana Barreto. Less than 10 minutes later, Celine Witt found Kirstine Lykke for the score to put Central out in front 2-1.
Lykke put the finishing touches on the win for Central with her second goal of the match in the 66th minute.
CMU finished the afternoon with 16 total shots, including nine shots on goal. MidAmerica tallied six shots with five of them being on frame.
Kaede Yamaguchi, Witt, Barreto, and Lykke each fired off three shots for CMU.
Candela Blanco Esteban recorded four saves in a full 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles.
Central remains on the road to face Graceland University Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5:00 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
