Central Shuts Out Wildcats Wednesday Night

Central Shuts Out Wildcats Wednesday Night

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team cruised past Heart foe Baker University 4-0 Wednesday night at Davis Field.

The Eagles improve to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. BU drops to 1-5-1 and 0-1 in conference action.

Central got on the board quickly, as Nerea Munoz sent a pass forward to Kirstine Lykke, who then flicked the ball over the keeper's head in the sixth minute of play for the opening goal of the match. It marked Lykke's second-straight goal in as many matches.

Less than 14 minutes later, a foul inside the box gave Central an opportunity at a penalty kick. Senior Alicia Zamora converted the PK, her fourth in the last five matches to push Central's lead to 2-0.

CMU's third score came on an olimpico style goal off a corner kick from Paula Castro in the 69th minute. Castro took the corner kick and curled it just inside the near post to extend Central's lead to 3-0.

The fourth and final goal came in the 86th minute from Andrea Jimenez with the assist coming from Emma Doyle

Altogether, Central fired off 22 total shots, with 14 of those coming on frame. Baker managed just seven shots with on goal. Castro led the Eagle offense with six total shots, while Doyle and Lacey Ann Murray each fired off three.

Candela Blanco Esteban earned her fourth win of the year in goal, playing all 90 minutes and picking up five saves.

The Eagles will travel to Olathe, Kansas to square off against No. 18 nationally ranked MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
