Barreto's Hat Trick Leads No. 6 CMU Past Grand View

Barreto's Hat Trick Leads No. 6 CMU Past Grand View

Fayette, Mo. - Behind a hat trick from freshman Mariana Barreto, the No. 6 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team cruised past Grand View University, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Davis Field.

The Eagles improve to 10-1-1 and 6-0 in the Heart of America while Grand View falls to 2-5-3 and 2-3-1 in conference action.

Following a scoreless opening 26 minutes, Central got on the board with Barreto's first goal of the afternoon in the 27th minute. Barreto dribbled through a host of defenders and fired a shot past the Grand View keeper, which found the lower left corner of the net for the score.

Less than four minutes later, Andrea Jimenez put Central up 2-0 with a goal in the 31st minute from 20 yards out.

Coming out of the halftime break leading 2-0, the Eagles' Barreto remained hot with a pair of goals, both on set pieces a little over a minute apart.

Her second goal came on a corner kick in the 53rd minute of play, as Delia Letelier sent a perfect cross into the box that Barreto flicked into the back of the net.

Within the next 60 seconds, Letelier and Barreto connected again on a corner kick for Barreto's third goal of the night to secure the hat trick. Grand View's offense tallied only three shots in the match, as Central's defense held them scoreless.

Barreto had the best game of her young career, firing off seven shots, with five shots on goal including three goals. Letelier finished the afternoon with two assists.

As a team, Central finished the match with 16 total shots, including 11 on frame.

The Eagles are set to do battle with rival and No. 23 nationally ranked Missouri Valley College Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field. Both squads currently sit atop the Heart standings with perfect 6-0-0 records.
