Oskaloosa, Iowa - The No. 6 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program defeated the William Penn Statesmen by a final score of 5-1 Wednesday evening in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-1-1 and 5-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. William Penn falls to 3-6-1 and 0-4-1 in conference action.
Kirstine Lykke notched her first goal of the night in fifth minute of play to put Central in front 1-0. In the 24th minute, Mariana Barreto scored in the 24th minute on the assist from Lacey Ann Murray and Maja Henriksen.
CMU padded its lead almost instantly, as Lykke scored her second goal of the evening to extend the lead to 3-0. William Penn tallied their lone goal in the 31st minute, resulting in a 3-1 lead for the Eagles at the halftime break.
Central added two mores goals in the second half, as Nerea Munoz (60th) and Andrea Jimenez (88th) each scored to make the final score 5-1 in favor of the Eagles.
CMU finished the match with 19 total shots, including 12 on goal, compared to just three shots and one on goal for William Penn. Lykke and Barreto led the way for the Eagles with three shots apiece, while Larissa Ozorio, Stine Lie, Jimenez, Munoz, and Celine Witt each tallied two shots.
Candela Blanco Esteban played 76 minutes in between the posts, before Leigh Brophy played the final 14 minutes to close the match out.
Central returns home to host Grand View University Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
