Eagles' Outlast No. 16 John Brown, 4-3

Eagles' Outlast No. 16 John Brown, 4-3

Fayette, Mo. - The No 8 Central Methodist women's soccer program won an offensive juggernaut against No. 16 John Brown University by a score of 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.

With the victory, Central improves to 4-1 overall, while handing the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season.

The Eagles jumped out in front early with goals from Celine Witt and Lacey Ann Murray in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. Coming out of halftime, John Brown scored a pair of goals in a five minute span to even the score at 2-2.

In the 70th minute, Jenna Brouwer put Central back out in front 3-2. Less than 30 seconds later, John Brown evened the score once again.

In the 75th minute, a foul inside the box gave CMU an opportunity to score on a penalty kick. For the second-straight game, senior captain Alicia Zamora rose to the occasion, converting the PK for the game-winner.

Central finished the afternoon with 16 total shots, with eight coming on frame. John Brown tallied seven shots and five on goal.

Witt led the CMU offense with four shots taken, including two on goal and the opening score of the match. Renee Berak, Zamora, Paula Castro, and Andrea Jimenez each recorded two shots.

Murray and Jimenez also dished out an assist each in the victory.

Candela Blanco Esteban improves to 2-0 when starting in goal for the Eagles. The freshman picked up two saves in a full 90 minutes of action between the posts.

Central will host No. 24 Campbellsville (Ky.) for their final non-conference match of the year Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
