Fayette, Mo. - The No. 10 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program cruised to a 7-1 victory over Southwestern Christian University Sunday afternoon at Davis Field.
CMU picks up its first win of 2023. In addition, the Eagles extend their home winning streak to 54 games.
Central found themselves trailing early, as a misplay by the CMU defense left Southwestern Christian with a scoring opportunity, which they capitalized on in the second minute of play.
The Eagles of CMU responded with four goals in a 20 minute span. Kaede Yamaguchi got the scoring started in the 22nd minute off the assist from Andrea Jimenez, followed by goals from Lacey Ann Murray and Manuela Polachini in the 36th and 42nd minute respectively.
Jessica Meira added the final goal of the half on a header in the closing minutes to put Central out in front 4-1 at the break.
Less than 30 seconds into the second half, junior Celine Witt netted her first goal of the year. Both Murray and Polachini tallied their second goals of the game in the 62nd and 64th minute.
Altogether, Central finished the day firing off 25 shots, including 14 on goal. SWC finished with just two shots and two on goal.
Murray was one of several bright spots for the Eagles in the game, as the junior forward from Ocho Rios, Jamaica recorded a brace in the win.
Max De Armas Columbo earned got the start in between the posts, playing a full 45 minutes in the first half. Candela Blanco Esteban came on as a halftime substitute, finishing the game in goal for CMU.
Central will make the quick trip to Fulton, Missouri to face William Woods University Wednesday, August 30 at 5:00 p.m.
