Eagles wrap up the regular season with win over No. 13 Grace

Eagles wrap up the regular season with win over No. 13 Grace

Fayette, Mo. – The No. 11 Central Methodist women's soccer team defeated No. 13 Grace College in their final regular-season game by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Fayette, Mo.

The Eagles improve their record to 15-3 overall, while the Lancers fall to 11-5-1.

The first half was very balanced between both sides as each maintained an equal amount of possession time. The first goal for the Eagles came in the 24th minute of the game after Maria Cervello got a ball at midfield and found Elly Boothe at the top of the box. Boothe quickly turned and fired the ball past the keeper to give Central the 1-0 lead. Both teams had a few chances the rest of the half but weren't able to add any goals to the scoresheet, as Central took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Boothe scored her second and the final goal of the game in the 86th minute after a cross from fellow senior Sara Cobollo. The Eagles controlled the second half,  outshooting the Lancers 10-1, solidifying their 15th win of the season.

Boothe led CMU with six shots, four on goal and two finding the back of the net. Andrea Villar followed with three shots and two on target. Both Roneisha Frank and Sara Cobollo finished the game with two shots. Cobollo also added an assist.

Central will now turn its focus to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, set to start Saturday, April 3rd. The Eagles will face No. 8 seeded Grand View Viking at Davis Field, with start time TBA.
