Columbia, Mo. - The No. 21 Central Methodist Volleyball program took a break from conference action to compete against two nationally ranked opponents in No. 9 Missouri Baptist and No. 15 Columbia College Monday night in Columbia, Mo.
The Eagles fell to Missouri Baptist in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17, followed by a four-set defeat to Columbia College (25-21, 25-16, 14-25, and 25-13).
The highlight of the evening came in the first set againt the Cougars. Senior opposite hitter Callie Henson tallied her fourth kill of the set, setting the new program record for career-kills with 1,463. The mark was previously held by Darcy Latham (1,462 - 2014-17).
To date, the two-time NAIA All-American has recorded 1470 career kills including a career single-season best 409 as a junior in 2021. In addition, Henson is in the Top 10 in three different CMU Volleyball career categories.
Against the Spartans, Henson led the Eagles with 11 kills, while Annabelle Maassen added eight and Delaney Miller six. Maassen was the most efficient hitter for Central, recording a .412 attack percentage.
Ryleigh McBurney led the setters with 19 assists in addition to a team-high three service aces paired with three digs.
Krystal Brauner led the defense with 10 digs followed by Alyssa Smith with five.
In the night cap against Columbia College, Miller matched her season-high with 14 kills on 24 swings with only two attack errors. She also finished the evening with four blocks.
Henson followed with 11 kills while Joana Milho also reached double-digit kills with 10. Junior Morgan LeBlanc nearly cracked double figures with eight.
McBurney once again led the setters with a team-high 27 assists, while Gabi Owczarek dished out 17.
Brauner and Maassen both recorded double-digit kills with 31 and 15 respectively.
Central returns home to host Baker University in their final regular season home match of the year Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
CMU will honor its 2023-24 senior class prior to the match.
