No. 22 Central Sweeps Culver-Stockton in Canton

No. 22 Central Sweeps Culver-Stockton in Canton

Canton, Mo. - The No. 22 Central Methodist Volleyball program swept Culver-Stockton College in a cross-division road matchup Friday night in Canton, Mo.

The Eagles defeated CS-C in straight-sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-12. It marks CMU's ninth sweep in its last 11 matches. With the win, Central improves to 13-6 and 7-2 in the Heart of America, while Culver drops to 3-17 and 0-10 in conference play.

The Wildcats put up a fight early in the match as the first set remained a back-and-forth all tied at 19-19. Consecutive kills from Delaney Miller, Morgan LeBlanc, and Sydney Healy put Central out in from 22-19.

A service error by the Eagles gave serve back to the Wildcats. But back-to-back kills from Joana Milho and Annabelle Maassen shut the door on any comeback for CS-C, as Central took set one, 25-20.

In the second set, Central jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back. CMU led by as many as 13 points, coming away with a double-digit victory in set two.

Central finished the third set hitting .367 while holding the Wildcats to a negative hitting percentage with eight attack errors.

Callie Henson led all attackers with 12 kills on 22 swings along with a block. Milho had one of the best performances of her young career, matching her career-high with 10 kills on 14 swings for a .571 attack percentage.

Miller tallied eight kills while Maassen and Healy each chipped in five. Freshman setter Drew Gayle got her first career start and dished out a match-high 20 assists in the win. Ryleigh McBurney followed with 16 assists and five digs.

Senior libero Krystal Brauner finished the evening with 16 digs, four assists, and two service aces.

Central remains on the road, and will next face Baker University Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
