No. 19 Central Cruises Past Graceland in Straight Sets

Lamoni, Iowa - No. 19 Central Volleyball picked up a three-set victory over the Graceland Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Eagles improve to 16-6 and 10-2 in conference action, while Graceland drops to 5-15 and 2-10 in the Heart. Central has now won 10 of its last 11 games, with each win coming in straight sets.

CMU found themselves trailing early in set one, as the Yellowjackets jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Following an Eagles' timeout, Central scored three straight points, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Morgan LeBlanc and Sydney Healy

CMU would eventually claw their way back into the set, pulling even with the Yellowjackets at 10-10. Both teams continued to exchange points and remained tied at 14-14 before a kill by Delaney Miller put Central out in front 15-14. The Eagles never looked back, as CMU closed the set on a 10-5 scoring run to win the first set, 25-19.

CMU found their stride in set two. After trailing 9-7, Central scored 14 consecutive points to take a double-digit lead. The Yellowjackets managed to score just one point following Central's run, as the Eagles won set two convincingly, 25-10. CMU hit a match-high .579 in the second set, compared to a negative hitting percentage for GU.

In the closing set, Central led from start to finish to ultimately come away with a 25-14 victory in the third to complete the sweep.

Joana Milho had one of the best games of her sophomore campaign, as she matched her career-high with 10 kills on 20 swings for an even .500 hitting percentage.

Annabelle Maassen matched Milho with 10 kills while hitting a team-high .588. Maassen nearly earned a double-double with seven digs, while also tallying an assist and a block.

Healy and Miller each finished with five kills, while junior setter Gabi Owczarek dished out a match-high 17 assists. Fellow setter Ryleigh McBurney followed with 14 assists.

Senior libero Krystal Brauner led the defense with 13 digs followed by Alyssa Smith with eight.

As a team, the Eagles hit .344, the best mark of their four-game road swing. In addition, Central committed nine total attack errors compared to 25 for the Yellowjackets.

CMU returns home to host Missouri Valley College Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House. Central will look for its 12th straight win against the Vikings with a victory.
