No. 22 Eagles Sweep Pioneers in Key Heart South Division Showdown

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 22 Central Methodist Women's Volleyball program won a key division showdown against Defending Heart Regular Season and Tournament Champion MidAmerica Nazarene University by scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-13 Tuesday night inside Puckett Field House. 

With the win, the Eagles improve to 12-6 and 6-2 in Heart action, positioning themselves within the top four teams in the conference. MidAmerica falls to 8-8 and 4-3 in conference play. 

Central's offensive power was evident in the first frame, as the Eagles finished set one hitting .433 with 14 kills and only one attack error. CMU started set No. 2 just as hot, hitting .429 with 14 kills, while holding the Pioneers to just .194 hitting. 

The Eagles finished the match with a dominant third and final frame, winning the set 25-13, and completing the sweep. 

Central got production from up and down its lineup. Senior Delaney Miller had one of the most efficient nights of her career, as the native of Buffalo, Mo. rattled off 10 kills on 13 swings for a .769 hitting percentage. She also tallied two blocks in the win. 

Fellow senior Callie Henson had a solid showing, leading the attackers with 13 kills on 23 swings in addition to two blocks, one dig and an assist. Joana Milho finished the evening with six kills, while both Morgan LeBlanc and Annabelle Maassen added five. 

Maassen also finished the match with a game-high four blocks, while Sydney Healy joined in on party with two blocks of her own. 

Junior setter Gabi Owczarek dished out 28 assists and nearly secured a double-double with eight digs. Ryleigh McBurney chipped in 13 assists as well. 

Krystal Brauner led the defensive effort with 15 digs while Alyssa Smith added seven. 

Altogether, the Eagles hit .406 while committing just four errors, their second best offensive output of the year so far. 

Central heads out on the road for an extended road trip, beginning with Culver-Stockton College Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
