Eagles Split Final Day of Labor Day Classic

Bellevue, Neb. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Volleyball program spilt its final pair of matches at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Dickinson State in straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-13) before falling to (RV) Loyola (La.) in five sets (25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 22-25, 8-15)

Central made quick work of Dickinson State in its third game of the tournament.

As a team, the Eagles finished the match hitting .370 while committing just seven attack errors on the afternoon. Senior Delaney Miller led all hitters with 10 kills on 17 swings. In addition, the native of Buffalo, Missouri tallied five blocks.

Annabelle Maassen followed with nine kills and eight digs. She also recorded two service aces in the three-set sweep. Morgan LeBlanc matched Maassen with nine kills while adding four digs and a block.

Gabi Owczarek led the team with 21 assists paired with six digs. Ryleigh McBurney also had a productive afternoon, dishing out 12 assists while adding three digs and two service aces.

Senior libero Krystal Brauner finished the match with 10 digs.

Against the Wolf Pack, Central charged out in front in the first two sets before Loyola came back to win the final three, earning a 3-2 match victory.

Four different Eagles recorded double-digit kills, led by Miller with 14. Sydney Healy followed 13 kills, while Alyssa Smith added 11 and Annabelle Maassen 10.

Owczarek dished out a career-best 38 assists while also recording 12 digs, good enough for her third double-double of the year. Brauner led the Central defense with 41 digs.

CMU turns its attention to the home portion of its schedule, beginning with a home triangular that features Hannibal-LaGrange and Southwestern College Friday, Sept. 8 inside Puckett Field House.
