Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team opened up its three-game home stand with a 5-3 victory over Grand View University Sunday afternoon at Davis Field.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Heart of America. Grand View falls to 2-5-3 and 1-4-3 in conference action.
Liam Arthur put Central on the board first in the seventh minute, as Alvaro Perojo threaded a pass to Arthur, who then slipped the ball past the keeper for the first score of the game.
30 minutes later, Martin O'Toole sent a right footed cross into the box, which was then headed in by Mats Van Der Eerden for the second goal of the day.
Grand View got on the board with less than four minutes left after converting a penalty kick to close the half.
In the 58th minute, a defensive miscue from Grand View gave Central's Basil Erne possession of the ball. The NAIA All-American then dished the ball off to Arthur who scored his second goal of the match, putting the Eagles up 3-1.
Grand View responded less than five minutes later to cut the lead back to one, before Matheus Storck anwered for Central almost instantly, scoring off a deflected shot to give CMU its fourth goal of the afternoon.
The fifth and final goal for the Eagles came off the foot of Isaac Johnson, who fired off a shot past the Vikings' keeper in the upper 90. He was set up on a corner kick from Cesar Cuellar in the 84th minute.
The Vikings tallied one more goal late, making the final score 5-3 in favor of Central.
As a team, Central outshot Grand View 20-12, with both sides finding nine of those shots on frame. Storck led the Eagles' offense with six total shots, followed by Johnson with five. Arthur finished the afternoon with a brace and Niccolo Cabras earned his third win of the year between the posts.
Central is next set to host No. 20 Missouri Valley College Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
