Fayette, Mo. - Behind a goal in the 85th minute from Isaac Johnson, the No. 21 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program defeated (RV) John Brown University, 2-1 Saturday evening at Davis Field.
The Eagles improve to 3-2 with one non-conference match left on their schedule.
It was a scoreless first half, as both sides had several scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize.
John Brown would eventually take a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 69th minute of play. Central's offense came to life less than two minutes later, as Sofiane Jaouzi dribbed down the near sideline where he would dish the ball off to Matheus Storck.
Storck fired a strike past the JBU goalkeeper, which found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
Fifteen minutes later, Johnson took advantage of a JBU defensive miscue and found himself one on one with the goalkeeper. Johnson dribbled around the keeper and slipped the ball into the net for the game winner with less than five minutes left.
Central picked up its offensive production in the second half, as they fired off 12 second half shots compared to just eight for John Brown.
Mats Van Der Eerden and Koen Schimmel each recorded three shots, with all three of Van Der Eerden's shots coming on frame.
Morris Van Tuinen earned his second win of the year between the posts, playing all 90 minutes and recording six saves in the victory.
Central hosts Columbia College Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. for their final non-conference match of the year.
