Eagles Cruise Past Southwestern Christian, 6-1

Bethany, Okla. - The No. 12 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program cruised to a 6-1 victory over Southwestern Christian University Monday afternoon in Bethany, Oklahoma.

The Eagles improve to 2-1 with three games remaining in the non-conference portion of their schedule.

CMU jumped out in front quickly, as Liam Arthur put Central on the board in just the fourth minute of play. Less than 15 minutes later, senior Isaac Johnson padded Central's lead with his first goal of the year.

SWC cut the lead in half with a goal in the 23rd minute of play, before Central's Martin O'Toole pushed the lead back to two goals with a score. Leading 3-1 at the halftime break, Liam Arthur and Koen Schimmel broke the game open in the opening 15 minutes of the second half with a goal each.

Jorge Cervantes put the finishing touches on the match with his first goal of the year in the 81st minute.

Central finished the afternoon with 16 total shots, of which 13 came on frame. SWC tallied 10 shots but managed to put only three on target.

Arthur had the most efficient day for the Eagles, firing off four shots, including two that found the back of the net for his first brace of the year. Johnson also had a productive day, scoring one goal and dishing out two assists.

Niccolo Cabras got his first career start in goal, playing all 90 minutes and recording a save in the victory.

Central returns home to host the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
