Men's Soccer Draws Mount Mercy in Heart Opener

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The No. 22 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program opened Heart play with a 1-1 draw against Mount Mercy Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

With the decision, Central moves to 3-2-2 and 0-0-1 in conference action. The Mustangs are now 3-0-3 and 0-0-1 in the Heart. 

After a scoreless first half, Alvaro Perojo found the back of the net in the 56th minute for his first goal of the year with the assist coming from Jan Boettcher. Mount Mercy responded with 10 minutes left with a goal of their own to even the match at 1-1. 

Neither side was able to record the go-ahead goal in the final minutes, as the match resulted in a 1-1 draw. 

The Eagles finished the match with eight total shots taken, including three on goal. Mount Mercy fired off 10 shots with three coming on frame. 

Liam Arthur and Koen Schimmel each recorded two shots, while Niccolo Cabras played all 90 minutes in between the posts. 

Central returns home to host Baker University Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
