Four Eagles Nationally Ranked; Team Receiving Votes in NAIA Coaches' Top 20 Poll

Fayette, Mo. - Four members of the Central Methodist Men's Wrestling team are ranked in the first regular-season edition of the NAIA Coaches' Top 20 poll, which was announced by the national office Thursday.

James Griffin, a redshirt sophomore from St. Louis, is ranked No. 2 in the 157-pound weight class, while fellow sophomore Colton King lands at No. 6 in the 125 weight class.

Junior Garine Gibson moves one spot to No. 20 at 285 pounds, and Bolivar, Missouri native Hayden Burks enters the ranking at No. 25 in the 184-pound weight class.

As a team, CMU continues to receive votes, joined by fellow Heart members No. 1 Grand View, No. 20 Baker, (RV) Missouri Valley, (RV) William Penn, (RV) Graceland, (RV) Dickinson State, (RV) St. Ambrose, and (RV) Waldorf.

The Eagles will next compete at the Grand View Open Saturday, Nov. 11 at 9:00 a.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rating Methodology

  • The rating was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the eight conferences/groups.
  • Two days prior to the national rating, each qualifying group rater submits the top 10 individuals from each weight class in his conference into the system. Only wrestlers listed on a conference ballot are considered for the national ballot.
  • The top 25 individuals in each weight class is based on how each voter ranks the best individuals. An individual receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second place and so on through the list. This same point system is used to determine the team ranking.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot
