Late Goal Salvages 1-1 Draw for Eagles

Late Goal Salvages 1-1 Draw for Eagles

Canton, Mo. - In a tightly contested match in Canton, Missouri, the CMU Men's Soccer team (9-2-3, 3-2-2) faced the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats (0-9-4, 0-6-1) for a Heart regular season contest Saturday night.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes and despite the Eagles' five attempts at goal, it was the Wildcats who broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with their second shot of the match. Junior midfielder, Enzo Lima, capitalized on a defensive lapse to score unassisted, giving his side a 1-0 lead.

Central Methodist responded with increased urgency, dominating possession and firing off 16 shots throughout the game. Their efforts paid off late, when senior Cesar Cuellar leveled the score in the 85th minute.

Despite several chances to find a winner, including numerous shots in the closing minutes, neither team could break the tie. Central Methodist outshot Culver-Stockton 16-5, but the Wildcats' goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach made seven crucial saves to preserve the draw.

Niccolo Cabras, in goal for Central Methodist, tallied three saves, ensuring the Eagles earned a point despite a challenging outing.

With the result, Central Methodist remains in the thick of the conference race as the regular season comes closer to concluding.

The Eagles will return to action Saturday, Oct. 19 as they welcome No. 8 William Penn to Davis Field. Kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
