Fayette, Mo. - The No. 22 Central Methodist Men's Soccer team's upset bid of No. 8 William Penn fell short Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
CMU fell to William Penn by a final score of 2-0.
Central now stands at 9-3-3 and 3-3-2 in the Heart of America, while William Penn improves to 13-2-1 and 7-2 in conference play.
Penn struck first in the fourth minute of play to take a 1-0 lead, which they would hold at the halftime break. Central improved its offensive attack in the second, firing off six total shots.
However, the Eagles were unable to capitalize, and William Penn sealed the game with a goal off a throw-in in the 80th minute.
WPU finished the game with 17 shots and six on goal, compared to eight shots and two on goal for the Eagles.
CMU hits the road for a matchup against (RV) Benedictine College on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas.
