Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team fell in a heartbreaker to Mount Mercy in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mount Mercy knocked off the Eagles on a buzzer beater as time expired in overtime, 100-98. Central now stands at 19-9 and 15-9 in the Heart, while the Mustangs finish their season at 8-17 and 7-14 in conference play.
All five of Central's starters landed in double figures, led by Everett Stubblefield who scored 25 points. TreVon Smith followed with 23 points and 11 rebounds to secure a double-double.
Peter Turay matched his season-high with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Both Trey Sinegal and Isaiah May scored 12 points, while May finished with nine rebounds and Sinegal eight.
Central outrebounded the Mustangs, 50-41, of which 17 came on the offensive glass.
Mount Mercy finished the night shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, compared to 44.6 percent for CMU.
The Eagles have earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Central will host No. 5 seeded Peru State College in the Heart Quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
