Central secures senior day win over Missouri Valley

Fayette, Mo. - The (RV) Central Methodist men's basketball team secured an 84-63 over rival Missouri Valley College Saturday afternoon inside Puckett Field House.

With the win, Central finishes the regular season with a 21-9 overall record and a 12-7 mark in conference play. MVC sees its season come to an end with a final mark of 14-15 and 6-13 in the Heart.

Prior to tipoff, the Eagles recognized their 2021-22 senior class which included Joshua Morrow, Brandon Koch, Fode Camara, and Tim Cameron. Central tallied 45 first half points to take a nine-point lead to the locker room at halftime. CMU would outscore the Vikings in the second half, 39-27 to earn a convincing 21-point victory.

Central saw five Eagles reach double figures, led by Jonathan Brown with 18 points. Fellow London, England native Thomas Sowoolu recorded his first double-digit scoring performance since Jan. 8 with 16 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Sowoolu converted all of eight of his field goal attempts in addition to grabbing four rebounds.

Camara added 15 points and eight rebounds, nearly earning a double-double. He also dished out three assists, a steal, and a block. Isaiah May was the fourth Eagle to reach double figures with 13 points including three three-point baskets. May also added seven rebounds, and two assists in 28 minutes of action.

Cameron was extremely efficient from all areas of the floor, scoring seven points, adding eight rebounds, and dishing out a game-high 13 assists.

Trent Lyles was the final CMU player to land in double figures with 10 points.

Both teams were identical from beyond the arc, as each side shot 11-of-29 from three for 37.9-percent. Central dominated the glass with 44 rebounds compared to just 20 for Missouri Valley.

Central has earned the No. 2 seed in the South for the upcoming Heart Conference Tournament. The Eagles will host Peru State College in the quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Puckett Field House.

The Eagles won the earlier matchup between the two schools 75-68 back on Jan. 29 in Fayette.
