Eight Eagles Nationally Ranked in Latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll

Kansas City, Mo. - Eight members of the Central Methodist Women's Wrestling program were ranked in their respective weight classes, as the national office released the NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll Thursday.

Additionally, CMU was recieving votes as a team in the latest poll.

Other Heart programs featured or ranked in the Top 20 include; No. 2 Grand View, No. 3 William Penn, No. 8 Missouri Valley, No. 14 Baker, and No. 19 Dickinson State.

Lillian Gough leads the way for Central, as the senior is ranked 12th 138 pounds. Toni Avelino is No. 13 at 110 pounds, while Victoria Nunez is No. 17 at 117 and Grace Timmons No. 17 at 180 pounds.

Four different Eagles are ranked 20th, including Ryleigh Page (117), Allison Hynes (124), Corinne McClure (131), and Emily Neumann (138).

Central will compete in one final regular season tournament before the postseason begins at the Wildcat Open  Saturday, Feb. 15, in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Rating Methodology

  • The ratings were voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the six conferences.
  • Two days prior to the national rating, each qualifying group rater submits the top 10 individuals from each weight class in the conference into the system. Only wrestlers listed on a conference ballot are considered for the national ballot.
  • The top 20 individuals in each weight class is based on how each voter ranks the best individuals. An individual receives 20 points for each first-place vote, 19 for second place and so on through the list. This same point system is used to determine the team ranking.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes."
