
Atchison, Kan. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team dropped its Wednesday night contest to Benedictine College by a score of 65-57 in Atchison, Kan.
CMU now stands at 9-10 and 6-9 in the Heart of America, while the Ravens improve to 13-6 and 11-4 in conference play. Both sides split the two-game series, as Central won the earlier matchup back in November.
Central found themselves trailing 20-11 at the end of the first quarter, but evened the scoring in the second frame at 16-16. The Eagles would trail Benedictine, 36-27 at the halftime break.
The final two quarters were fairly close in scoring, as Central trimmed the deficit to 40-38 in the closing minutes of the third. Benedictine outscored Central, 9-4, over the final three minutes to push their lead to seven entering the fourth quarter.
Central remained within striking distance, coming within two in two different instances midway throug the fourth. The Eagles were plagued by foul trouble throughout the game, with the Ravens converting on seven-of-eight free throws down the stretch to secure an eight point win.
Senior forward B'Aunce Carter recorded her second-highest point total of the season, scoring a team leading 21 points on nine-of-14 shooting from the floor.
Both Zutorya Cook and Sharay Trotter each chipped in 12 points, while Cook grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and recorded one steal. Trotter added three rebounds, two steals, two assists, and a block.
The difference proved to be on the boards, as Benedictine outrebounded Central Methodist, 50-37. In addition, BC also made 29 trips to the charity stripe, while the Eagles went to the line just seven times.
The Eagles return home to host Grand View University Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House as part of Hall of Fame weekend.
