
Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team fell to Missouri Valley College in a high scoring shootout, 95-93, Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
Central falls to 7-6 and 4-5 in the Heart of America, while the Vikings improve to 9-4 and 7-2 in conference action.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for a majority of the evening, with MVC holding a 67-66 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Missouri Valley led by as many as six with just under three minutes remaining in regulation. Central came within striking distance at 91-90 after an and-one from reigning Heart Player of the Week Zutorya Cook with 14 seconds left.
The Vikings knocked down a pair of free throws after Central was forced to foul, stretching MVC's lead to 93-90. Central was unable to find the game-tying three on their following possession, as Valley escaped with a narrow two-point victory.
Four different Eagles landed in double figures, including three in the starting lineup.
Cook had a career-night for CMU, pouring in a game-high 34 points which included three three-point baskets. Cook also converted on nine-of-13 attempts from the free throw line. In addition, she tallied three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
B'Aunce Carter scored 25 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds. Sharay Trotter stuffed the stat sheet, tallying 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block in 36 minutes of action.
Miaya Ware rounded out the double-digit scorers for Central with 10 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Altogether, Central shot 47.8 percent from the floor and 76.5 percent from the charity stripe.
The Eagles were unable to stymie the hot shooting of the Vikings, as Missouri Valley shot over 50 percent from the field and an impressive 45.8 percent from three, knocking down 11 three-point baskets.
The Eagles remain at home and will host Park University Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
