Sterling, Kan. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Women's Basketball team earned their second road win of 2023-24, defeating Sterling College by a final score of 81-59 Saturday afternoon in Sterling, Kan.
The Eagles improved to 2-1, while the Warriors are now 0-3.
Central came out in the first half with a strong offensive presence, outscoring the Warriors in both the first and second quarters. The third quarter was more evenly balanced, as the Warriors outscored Central 23-22.
However, Central regained their traction by the fourth quarter, holding the warriors to just 11 points to secure the 22-point win.
Sharay Trotter led the Eagles with 18 points. Zutorya Cook wasn't far behind with 14 while also recording 11 rebounds to earn a double-double, paired with five steals. Bryana Langford was the final Eagle in double figures, as the senior finished with 13 points.
Newcomer Hayley Berfield finished the evening with four steals, and as a team, the Eagles held Sterling to just one three-point make on 12 attempts.
Two other Eagles, Sa'Mya Stevens & B'Aunce Carter had a busy night on the glass, pulling down five rebounds each, trailing behind Tynesha Parnell's six boards.
Central will open conference action against defending NAIA National Champion Clarke University Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
