
Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist Men's Soccer team secured its fifth consecutive Heart Regular Season Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
The Eagles earned a 2-2 draw against William Penn University, and now stand at 12-0-5 and 9-0-3 in the Heart. William Penn falls to 9-5-3 and 6-4-2 in conference action.
Central also recognized its 2022 CMU Men's Soccer senior class which included; Jesse Bank, Mark Csongradi, Alessandro Salvadego, Sebastian Bocaz Canales, Jayton Johnson, Alessandro Lacerti, and Riccardo Sandulli.
Jesse Bank got the scoring started in just the fourth minute of play, scoring when a deflected shot fell at his feet for the easy put back. William Penn responded less than five minutes later to even the score at 1-1.
The Statesmen took the lead in the 35th minute of play, 2-1, before Cian Halpin answered right back for Central to even the score at 2-2.
Both sides were unable to put together the game winner in the second half, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Guilherme Pereira led Central's offensive attack with three shots, while Bank, Stefano Campisi, and Halpin each added two shots.
Beer De Vos finished the afternoon with two saves through 90 minutes of action in between the posts.
Central has earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, and will host No. 8 seeded Mount Mercy Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. in Fayette, Mo.
The Eagles won the regular season matchup between the two sides by a score of 3-0 back on Oct. 15 in Fayette.
