Central Falls to MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart Title Game

Central Falls to MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart Title Game

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 3 seeded Central Methodist Women's Soccer program fell in the Heart Tournament Championship game to No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene by a final score of 2-1 Tuesday night at Davis Field.

Both sides were scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play. Central's Mariana Barreto got CMU on the scoreboard first in the 63rd minute with her 16th goal of the year.

MNU tied the match in the 77th minute followed by the game winning goal in the 87th minute, coming away with their first conference tournament title in program history.

MNU completed an impressive tournament run, winning three straight road games all against higher seeds to take the Heart postseason crown.

CMU outshot the Pioneers 13-4 on the match, but only four of those shots were on target. Barreto led the offense with seven total shots, followed by senior forward Kirstine Lykke with four.

The Eagles enter national tournament play with a record of 16-3-1.

Central will now await to find out its draw into the 2024 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament. The selection show will take place Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the following link.
