Marshall, Mo. - The No. 6 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team traveled to Marshall, Missouri, to face off against No. 23 Missouri Valley College Tuesday evening.
After falling in the Heart tournament title game last season to the Vikings, the Eagles were looking to get off to a strong start in Tuesday's match and make a statement early on.
It was the home side, however, that got off to an early 1-0 lead before doubling it.
Maddi Hudson opened up the scoring mark in the 17th minute, notching her second goal of the young campaign right before Ashley Arribas scored her six of the year, pushing the lead to 2-0.
After some adjustments by the Eagles, Mariana Barreto found herself on the score sheet. With the assist from Lacey Ann Murray, Central was able to cut the deficit in half.
After both sides came out of the locker room trading shots in the second half, key saves by both goalkeepers kept the score at 2-1.
With 10 minutes before the final whistle, however, it was Viktoria Einsbor who got the third goal of the game for Missouri Valley, pushing their lead back out to two.
A minute later, Paula Castro responded right back, putting the ball in the back of the net and making it just a 3-2 Viking lead.
After relentless pursuit by the Eagles to tie things up, the equalizer was nowhere to be found as the Vikings took the narrow one-goal victory.
With this, the Eagles now hold a 6-1-1 overall record and a 1-1-0 mark in conference play. They will take some much needed rest before returning to action Monday, Sept. 23, as they will welcome Graceland University to Davis Field.
Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
