Barreto Registers Second Consecutive Hat Trick as Eagles Defeat Mustangs

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program cruised past Mount Mercy, 5-0, Saturday evening at Davis Field. 

Central improves to 10-1-1 and 5-1 in the Heart of America, while MMU falls to 1-6-3 and 1-3-2 in conference action. 

Sophomore standout Mariana Barreto opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the opening 15 minutes of the first half. Barreto's second goal came on a put back after she initially missed a penalty kick, pushing Central's lead to 2-0. 

The third goal of the match came on a free kick from 25 yards out, as Paula Castro sent a strike past the MMU goalkeeper in the 50th minute. Barreto's third and final goal of the contest came in the 59th minute while Lorena Fuertes came off the bench and scored her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to cap the 5-0 victory. 

Central's offense dictated pace of play for the entirity of the match, as the Eagles fired off 22 total shots and 11 shots on goal. Mount Mercy managed to get off just three shots with two coming on goal. 

Barreto once again led the offense, as she registered her second consecutive hat trick. 

Central remains at home to host No. 19 MidAmerica Nazarene University Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
