Maryville, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Track and Field program posted a fourth place finish at the Heart of America Indoor Conference Championships this past weekend on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.
The Eagles finished the meet scoring 106.5 total points, just 3.5 points shy of a podium spot. Benedictine won the meet with 133.5 points, followed by Mount Mercy (132), and William Penn (110).
It marks a one spot improvement from last year's fifth place finish for the Eagles.
Senior Exavier Coburn secured a sixth place standing in the 3000m racewalk in a time of 15:59.12, hitting the qualifying standard for the national championship.
Chris Adekoya won the conference championship in the 60m and placed fourth in the 200m. The native of Staten Island, N.Y. broke the school record in the 200 with a national qualifying time of 21.73 seconds. In the 60, he finished the race in 6.71 seconds, setting a new conference record.
Junior Ethan Smith won the conference championship in the heptathlon with a school record 4849 total points, punching his ticket to nationals. Fellow multi participant Hunter Mont Cary earned a third place standing, scoring 4709 total points to join Smith at nationals.
Colder Evans finished as the runner-up in the weight throw with a new personal best of 16.87 meters. He also competed in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 14.90 meters.
Brayton Stephenson was the runner-up in the shot with a throw of 16.14 meters.
Jaxon Hiser won the pole vault with a 4.55 meters, and Leroy Williams placed first in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.07 seconds.
Altogether the Eagles garnered four individual conference champions.
Central will turn its attention to the NAIA Indoor National Championships, set to take place Feb. 29 - March 2 in Brookings, S.D.
