Eagles Post Sweeps of Tabor and Hannibal LaGrange Wednesday Night

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Volleyball program posted a pair of sweeps against Tabor College and Hannibal-LaGrange Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House. 

Central defeated Tabor by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-16, before concluding the night with a win over the Trojans by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-17. 

Against the Bluejays, Gimena Dezeo and Joana Milho each finished the evening with nine kills, including a .421 hitting percentage for Dezeo. Kelsie Walker followed with seven kills while Mia Trankler added six. 

Gabi Owczarek led the setters with 20 total assists, followed by Giulia Gainelli with 15. Senior libero Rita Campos finished the evening with 11 digs and a team leading three service aces. Owczarek nearly cracked double digit digs with nine while super senior Annabelle Maassen tallied seven and Gainelli five. 

Defensively, Kelsie Walker led the Eagles with four blocks while Leticia Barea and Trankler recorded three. Altogether, Central held Tabor to a negative hitting percentage while hitting .261 themsevles. 

Central then squared off against Hannibal LaGrange, who was just coming off a five-set win in their first match of the day over Tabor. Milho once again led the attackers with seven kills while both Walker and Maassen finished the evening with five. 

Both Owczarek and Gainelli dished out 12 assists respectively and Maassen led the defense with 10 digs. Both Maassen and Campos tallied three service aces in the three set sweep.

The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and will return to conference play against Graceland. CMU will host the Yellowjackets Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
