Eagles Drop Pair of Matches at OU Invitational

Ottawa, Kan. - The Central Methodist Volleyball program fell in a pair of nationally ranked matchups Thursday evening at the OU Invitational in Ottawa, Kan. 

Central fell to host (RV) Ottawa in five sets by scores of 25-17, 26-28, 25-21, 17-25, and 11-15 in their first game of the evening. Against No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan, the Eagles fell in straight sets, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19. 

Joana Milho finished the first match against the Braves with a new career-high 20 kills. Super senior Annabelle Maassen tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. The Jefferson City native also picked up six blocks, a service ace, and an assist. 

Both Martina Gonzato and Leticia Barea tallied eight kills while Lauryn Farish finished with five. Freshman Giulia Gainelli dished out 32 assists followed by Mariah Bostic-Jones with 23.

Gainelli joined Maassen in the double-double club with 11 digs while also leading the team with four service aces. 

Rita Campos led the defense with 27 digs. 

Against OKWU, Central finished the evening hitting just .065 compared to .257 for Oklahoma Wesleyan. Milho registered seven kills, six digs, and a pair of blocks. 

Maassen tallied five kills, five digs, three service aces, and a block. Both Barea and Mia Trankler finished the match with four kills, while Lauren Strange and Hailey Dreier picked up two.

Trankler also added four blocks to her stat line to lead the defense. 

The Eagles are set to travel to Stephens College for a non-conference matchup on Friday, Sept. 13 at 6:00 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
