No. 21 Eagles Win Fourth Straight with Sweep of Wildcats Friday Night

No. 21 Eagles Win Fourth Straight with Sweep of Wildcats Friday Night

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 21 Central Methodist Volleyball program pushed its winning streak to four matches with a three-set sweep of Baker University Friday night inside Puckett Field House.

Central swept the Wildcats by scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-16. The Eagles now stand at 20-5 and 9-2 in the Heart of America, while Baker drops to 10-10 and 3-8 in conference play.

The Eagles made quick work of Baker in the first two sets, tallying hitting percentages of .310 and .481. Central struggled early on in set three, as Baker was able to tie the match up at 9-9 before CMU took a timeout to regain their composure.

Central then rattled off eight consecutive points to take a 17-10 lead in the match. Baker never got any closer than seven points, as CMU cruised over the final stretch to seal the win.

Junior Joana Milho led the offensive attack for Central, as the Lisboa, Portugal native registered 10 kills on 24 swings. She also tallied seven digs and picked up a pair of service aces in the win.

Senior middle blocker Kelsie Walker also had an extremely efficient evening, tallying seven kills on 10 swings for a hitting percentage of .600. She also led the defense with a match-high four blocks.

Annabelle Maassen and Mia Trankler each tallied five kills while Maassen added six digs, two service aces, and a pair of assists.

Freshman setter Giulia Gainelli dished out a team-best 19 assists while adding two service aces and two digs.

Senior libero Rita Campos finished the evening with 17 digs and six service aces, tying her for fifth all-time for service aces in a three-set match in program history.

Central will remain at home to host Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House. The Eagles won the earlier matchup between the two sides in straight sets back on Sept. 27 in Marshall.
