Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Central Methodist Indoor Track & Field program began the New Year at the Redhawks Invite, hosted by Southeast Missouri State University Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Freshman Na'Zariah James hit the national qualifying 'B' standard and broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 5.58 meters. She would ultimately finish second in the event out of 18 competitors.
Junior Renee Finke won the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters, hitting the 'A' standard for the second time this season. Senior Delaney Miller qualified for nationals in the same event, hitting a mark of 1.65 meters to finish third.
Janiyah Brown placed third in the triple jump, hitting a mark of 10.55 meters. Senior thrower Karli Wolfe landed in the top five of the weight throw with a toss of 16.38 meters.
Dayana Montenegro posted a third place finish in the 55m dash with a time of 7.34 seconds. The junior from Cali, Colombia also placed fifth in the 200m.
Yanira Paninka placed third in the 800m in a time of 2:24.38.
On the men's side, junior Chris Adekoya broke the school record in the 55m dash in a time of 6.30 seconds, winning the event. The previous record had stood for 11 years.
Leroy Williams finished second in the 55m hurdles in a time of 7.71 seconds.
Adrian Watson placed second in the 400m in 51.54 seconds, while Doriye Jackson earned a second place standing in the 800m run in 1:58.72.
Jaxon Hiser finished tied for third in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 4.60 meters.
Central will next compete in the Concordia Polar Dog Invite Friday, Jan. 19 in Seward, Neb.
