Baldwin City, Kan. - The Central Methodist Women's Track & Field program finished third at the Heart of America Outdoor Conference Championships this past weekend in Baldwin City, Kan.
The two-day event, hosted by Baker University, featured all 12 schools that compete in track & field in the Heart of America.
CMU tallied 132 total points, while MidAmerica Nazarene won the team title with 169.50 points. Benedictine finished second with 162.5 points.
It marks the fourth-straight year the Eagles have landed in the top three of the conference championships.
Dayana Montenegro posted a second place finish in the 200m dash in a time of 24.66 seconds, a new personal best. She also placed third in the 400m dash in 56.16 seconds.
Renee Finke and Kailey Johnson finished 1-2 in the 100m hurdles in times of 14.31 and 14.41 seconds respectively.
Yanira Paninka earned a third place standing in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.37. The 4x400m relay team of Montenegro, Carter Hawkins, Paninka, and Johnson placed third in the event in 4:00.56.
Finke and Delaney Miller placed 1-2 in the high jump, clearing heights of 1.76 and 1.65 meters respectively. Finke's mark of 1.76 meters not only broke the school record, but also the conference record. Additionally, Finke earned bronze in the triple jump at 11.43 meters.
Sophomore Baylee Beard finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.68 meters. She also placed fourth in both the shot put (12.67m) and javelin (37.37m).
Junior Haley Bellamy earned a runner up finish in the heptathlon with a personal best 4,446 points. Baileigh Morris won the 5,000m racewalk with a new school record time of 27:16.50.
For her efforts at the championships, Finke was named the highest point scorer, tallying 27 total points. She finished the day placing first in the 100m hurdles and the high jump, placing third in triple jump, and eighth in the 200m dash.
Central will turn its attention to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, set to take place May 22-24 in Marion, Ind.
