No. 8 Central Sweeps Williams Baptist

No. 8 Central Sweeps Williams Baptist

Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team secured its second doubleheader sweep of the weekend, this time against Williams Baptist by scores of 9-0 and 12-3 Saturday afternoon in Walnut Ridge, Ark. 

The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the early season, while Williams Baptist falls to 4-8.

After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Eagles peppered the WBU pitching staff with three runs in the second, and two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings to secure a 9-0 shut out in five innings. 

Katelyn Kiser batted two-for-two, while Madison White recorded her second home run in as many days on a blast to centerfield to score two. She finished the game with three RBI. 

Montana Stangel, Makayla Albert, and Daly Garland each picked up doubles, including a two RBI double from Garland in the third inning.
 
Jordyn Ball pushed her record to 2-0 in the circle, throwing five compete innings while giving up no runs on three hits. She also struck out five batters. 
 
The second game of the doubleheader went all seven innings, with Central's bats in control from start to finish. 
 
Kiser batted a perfect four-for-four and nearly hit for the cycle with a two-run home run, a triple, and a pair of singles. She recorded four RBI altogether in addition to crossing the plate four times. 
 
Kelena Oots matched Kiser with four hits while driving in one runner and recording a stolen base.
 
White batted three-of-four with two doubles, including an RBI double in the first inning. 
 
Brooke Tolle earned her second win the year, pitching the first four innings and giving up just one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts. Haley Cotter came in relief for the final three innings and allowed just two earned runs on three hits. 
 
Central will host the Cottey College Comets in their home opening doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
