
Columbus, Georgia - The Central Methodist Softball team saw its season come to an end in the NAIA World Series Friday afternoon in Columbus, Georgia.
Central fell in an elimination game to No. 10 seed and defending national champion Southern Oregon by a final score of 3-2.
The Eagles jumped out in front of SOU in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs. With the bases loaded, sophomore Joely Crider induced a walk to score Kaysie Jolley from third. A Madison Roberts single back up the middle plated Elizabeth Palumbo to give CMU a 2-0 lead.
Southern Oregon cut the deficit in half on a solo home run to left field in the second inning. The Raiders ultimately tied the game in the fifth via a single back up the middle.
SOU caught a break in the sixth inning with a runner on third with two outs. A defensive miscue from Central Methodist allowed Southern Oregon to take the lead, 3-2, with the runner scoring from third.
Central mounted a comeback in the final inning, as they loaded the bases with two outs. However, SOU was able to induce a flyout to centerfield for the final out of the game to claim a one-run victory.
CMU finished the day scoring two runs on 10 hits.
Kelena Oots, Jolley, and Palumbo picked up two hits in four at bats, while Crider drew a pair of walks.
Haile Farris pitched a complete game in her final game in an Eagle uniform. She gave up just two earned runs on 10 hits while picking up one strikeout.
The Eagles finish their season with a 52-7 overall record, with the 52 wins being the most by any team in program history.
Additionally, Central made its second straight appearance in the World Series, marking the first time the Eagles have made back-to-back trips in school history.
