
Batesville, Ark. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Lyon College by scores of 10-2 and 5-3 Friday afternoon in Batesville, Ark.
The Eagles now stand at 3-1 in the early season, while the Scots fall to 0-6.
In game one, Lyon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles responded with a pair of runs in both the second and third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Lauren Hill.
CMU added an additional run in the fifth, and scored three runs in the sixth to pad their lead to 8-2.
The final two runs of the game came in the top of the seventh, courtesy of an RBI single from Montana Stangel and an then an error by the Scots first basemen to score Cassidy Brent.
Katelyn Kiser batted a perfect four-for-four with two doubles and three runs scored. Stangel finished the day batting three-of-five which included a double, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Brooke Tolle got the win in the circle, throwing a complete game and giving up only two earned runs on two hits. She also tallied nine strikeouts.
In the finale, Central saw themselves trailing 3-1 entering the top of the sixth inning. Following a leadoff single from Kiser, junior Madison White homered to left field to tie the game at 3-3.
Two batters later, Elizabeth Palumbo reached first base on an error by the Lyon third basemen, which was able to score Hill from third.
Kelena Oots capped the inning with an RBI single to score Kaysie Jolley.
Haley Cotter got the start in the circle for CMU, tossing four compete innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
Cassidy Brent came in relief for the final three innings of work, shutting out the Scots while recording four strikeouts. She would go on to earn her first win of the season.
Kiser once again led the Eagle offense with two hits in three at-bats, including a double. Oots, Madison Roberts, Joely Crider, and Makayla Albert all picked up one hit.
The Eagles will next face Williams Baptist for a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 18 beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
