
Fayette, Mo. - The No. 9 Central Methodist softball program completed a doubleheader sweep of Heart South Division foe Baker University Sunday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.
With the sweep, Central improves to 31-4 and 23-1 in conference play. The Wildcats fall to 22-19 and 13-15 in the Heart. CMU extends its winning streak to 22 consecutive games, having completed 11-straight doubleheader sweeps.
Central began the afternoon with a 5-1 victory in game one. The Eagles plated three runs in the second inning, courtesy of a two-RBI single from Madison White to left field followed by an RBI single from Micaela Harcrow.
Baker trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth, before CMU answered back with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Central tallied its final run of the game on an RBI single from Harcrow to score Kelena Oots.
Overall, Central finished game one scoring five runs on 11 hits including two walks. Oots batted a perfect three-for-three with a triple to centerfield in the fourth inning. She also scored three runs and drew one walk. Harcrow also picked up three hits in three at-bats, while White and Daly Garland collected two hits apiece.
Senior ace Keighlan Cronin pushed her overall record to 15-1, throwing all seven innings and giving up just one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Central concluded the day with a 10-0 game two victory in five innings. Following a scoreless first two innings of play, Central plated six runs in the third and four in the sixth to earn a decisive win.
The duo of Harcrow and Lauren Hill each batted a perfect three-for-three while Hill recorded three RBI. Senior first basemen Madison Love also drove in two runners on two RBI singles. White plated two on a double to right field in the third, in addition to a bases loaded walk from Katelyn Kiser.
Altogether, Central tallied 10 runs on 12 hits including three Wildcat errors. Mykala Johnico extended her perfect record to 12-0, tossing five scoreless innings and giving up only two hits. She also struck out four batters.
CMU will next face Evangel University Monday, April 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
