
Marshall, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist softball team stretched its winning streak to 14 games with another doubleheader sweep, this time of rival Missouri Valley College by scores of 4-3 and 14-0 Wednesday afternoon in Marshall, Mo.
With the pair of wins, CMU improves to 26-1 and 12-0 in conference action, while the Vikings fall to 10-11 and 2-8 in the Heart.
Game one was competive from the start as both teams exchanged runs in the first inning. The Vikings grabbed a 3-1 lead with a run in the second and fifth innings. However, the Eagles responded in the next half inning with three runs scored to take a 4-3 lead, highlighted by a two-run home run from Madison White.
Keighlan Cronin closed the game out in the final two innings, retiring six of the last seven batters to earn her 13th win of the season. She finished the afternoon with a complete game and 11 strikeouts.
Katelyn Kiser, Micaela Harcrow, Hannah Criswell, and Kelena Oots each collected two hits, while Harcrow and Morgan Willis both picked up a double. Willis also drew two walks and Oots recorded a stolen base.
The Eagle bats came alive in the second game, as Central scored runs in each of the first four innings, including eight runs in the third. Gorman batted a perfect four-for-four with five RBI and three runs scored, including a two-run home run in the second to lead the offense. White, Harcrow, and Kiser each drove in three runs. Overall the Eagle bats collected 14 runs on 13 hits compared to just a single hit for the Vikings.
Junior pitcher Madison Love tossed her 13th straight complete game, throwing all five innings and giving up only one hit and one walk with nine strikeouts. Love currently boasts a 1.01 earned run average and 88 total K's through 13 starts.
The Eagles continue road play with a trip to Grand View to face the Vikings on Friday, April 2nd in Des Moines, Iowa. First pitch of game one set for 2:00 p.m.
