Baldwin City, Kan. - The Central Methodist Men's Cross Country team opened the 2023 season at the ZK Maple Leaf Invitational, hosted by Baker University in Baldwin City, Saturday morning. 

Joining CMU and host school Baker at the meet were Benedictine College, Haskell, and Rockhurst University. Altogether, there were 70 total runners competing. 

Junior Meshack Kiptanui was the highest finisher for the Eagles, placing 13th in the 5K with a time of 16:33.87. Kiptanui was followed by Doriye Jackson, who landed in the top 20 with a time 16:45.79. 

Elvis Kipkosgei and Grant Engel finished 25th and 26th respectively. Exavier Coburn rounded out Central's top five runners with a 41st place finish. 

Quest Weller, Zy'Shonne Cowans, Elliott Reed, and Isaiah Barg also ran for CMU. 

The Eagles will next compete at the Larry Young Invitational Friday, Sept. 15 at 5:45 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
