
Bellevue, Neb. - The No. 15 Central Methodist Volleyball program earned two wins on day one of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic Friday in Bellevue, Neb.
Central began the day with a three-set sweep over No. 18 Taylor (Ind.) by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-11.
Callie Henson led the offense with 16 kills on 25 swings, finishing with an outstanding hitting percentage of .600. Delaney Miller followed with eight kills on 13 swings in addition to a solo block.
Sydney Healy chipped in seven kills, while Joana Milho added six. Overall, four of Central's hitters finished the match with a plus .400 hitting percentage.
Senior setter Marina Alonso dished out a team-high 20 assists along with a pair of digs. Gabi Owczarek added 14 assists and matched Alonso with two digs.
Krystal Brauner tallied 11 digs, followed by Shea Luby with eight and Annabelle Maassen with seven.
CMU wrapped up the day with a gutsy five-set victory over host school Bellevue University by scores of 25-19, 26-28, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-11.
Henson once again led the way for CMU, racking up 20 kills on 49 swings. Healy added 12 kills in addition to 11 kills from Miller. Miller was the most efficient of Central's hitters with a .417 hitting percentage. She also recorded seven block assists.
Alonso dished out 32 assists along with six digs, while Owczarek earned a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.
Maassen led Central with a match-high 25 digs, while Rita Campos, Shea Luby, Krystal Brauner, and Chelsey Moeckli each recorded nine.
Central concludes the tourney with matchups against Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and Olivet Nazarene Saturday, Sept. 3 at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
