Stephenson Brings Home National Title in Shot Put; CMU Men Complete Season at Outdoor Championships

Marion, Ind. - The Central Methodist Men's Track and Field program concluded its season at the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this past week on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. 

Central was represented by 16 athletes at this year's championships, including; Logan Bass (400m Hurdles), Hunter Mont Cary (Decathlon), Ethan Smith (Decathlon), Colder Evans (Shot Put, Discus & Hammer Throw), Brayton Stephenson (Shot Put), Hugo Massa (800m Run), Harvey Sayon (High Jump), Azaan Stoughtenborough (Triple Jump), and Leroy Williams (110m Hurdles). 

Additionally, the 4x100m relay (Adam TrachselSam Thomas, Williams, & Charles Young) and the 4x800m relay teams (Jacchaeus TaylorDoriye JacksonDavid Leon, and Massa) ran for the Eagles.

Highlighting the meet for the Eagles was junior Brayton Stephenson, who won the national title in the shot put after reaching a mark of 18.47 meters on his second throw of the event Friday. 

The throw, which set a new school record, gave Stephenson his second national title in 2025. He also took home first place in the indoor shot put in Gainesville, Florida, this past March. 

Colder Evans finished 12th in the same event with a toss of 16.43 meters. Additionally, Evans competed in the discus (10th - 48.10m) and the hammer throw (18th - 54.18m)

Sayon got his first championship experience in the high jump on Thursday, as did Stoughtenborough in the Triple Jump on Friday. 

Stoughtenborough finished 20th after completing a jump of 13.95 meters. Sayon did not record a mark in the high jump. 

Smith and Cary finished the decathlon in ninth and 13th place, respectively. Smith tallied 6,301 total points, highlighted by a third-place finish in the shot put. 

Cary recorded 6,082 points, highlighted by third-place finishes in the 110m hurdles and fourth-place finishes in the 400m dash. 

Bass posted a 17th-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.43 seconds. 

Williams finished 12th after running a preliminary time of 14.64 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. 

Trachsel, Thomas, Williams, and Young ran the prelims of the 4x100m dash, finishing 23rd with a time of 41.69 seconds. 

The quartet of Leon, Jackson, Taylor, and Massa finished 23rd in the prelims of the 4x800 after completing a time of 7:56.00.

After scoring 10 points as a team, the Eagles finished in a tie for 26th place in the final standings.
