
Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Baseball team completed its series sweep over Baker University Sunday afternoon at Estes Field.
Central defeated Baker in game three of the series, 5-4 before taking game four, 5-3.
The Eagles now stand at 11-7 and 5-3 in the Heart of America, while Baker falls to 7-9 and 4-4 in conference action.
Game 3: No. 23 CMU 5 - Baker 4
The Wildcats got the scoring started in the top of the second with a leadoff home run to right field. CMU wasted no time in tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the frame.
With Darius Freeman at first after a walk to begin the second, Peyton Becker connected on a double to center field to drive in Freeman.
CMU added one more next inning with two away off a Ryan Malzahn home run to right field.
Baker tied the game at 2-2 via a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning.
Central's offense produced its best inning in the sixth, capped by a three-run home run from Valentin Cerna Jr. to right field.
With two away in the top of the seventh, Baker cut the Eagles' lead to one on a two-run home run to center. However, Central was able to retire the next batter on a strikeout to secure the one-run win.
Marcos Lopez was the winning pitcher, as the graduate student went six innings, allowing three runs on three hits, and three walks. He also struck out five.
Game 4: No. 23 CMU 5 - Baker 3
After a scoreless top of the first, the Eagles pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom half.
Carlos Negron was credited with the sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Cerna Jr., who drew a walk to open the inning.
The Wildcats were able to get on the scoreboard themselves in the third inning, taking a three-run lead on a bases clearing double to right field.
The Eagles had a very productive bottom of the fifth to regain the lead, as CMU saw seven batters come up to the plate. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back home-runs.
Malzahn launced his second bomb of the day to bring in three, while Negron recorded his fifth home run of the series to make it a 5-3 ballgame.
Central's pitching took care of business in the last two innings to close out the two-run victory and complete the four-game sweep over Baker.
Nicholas Neighbours had an impressive six innings of work on the mound, striking out seven while allowing just two hits and three runs, all of which were unearned.
Landon Winingham came in the seventh to get the save. He struck out one, walked one, and allowed one hit.

The Eagles will travel to Canton, Missouri, to face Culver-Stockton for a four-game series beginning Saturday, March 15.
