Eagles Sweep Graceland in Conference Opener

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 22 Central Methodist Baseball team opened up conference play with a four-game series sweep of the Graceland Yellowjackets last weekend at Estes Field. 

Game 1: No. 22 CMU 15 - Graceland 2

Sebastian Escobar pitched five complete innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts. Both Alfred Ulloa and Marcus Pritchard threw an inning as well. 

Central plated 15 runs on 15 hits, including six for extra bases. 

Jeremy Conforti batted three-for-three including two doubles and a solo homerun. He finished the afternoon driving in a game-high four RBI. Bobby Nichols, Valentin Cerna Jr., Carlos Negron, and David Soriano tallied two hits apiece. 

Soriana also recorded a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Game 2: No. 22 CMU 9 - Graceland 0

Central shut out the Graceland bats in the second game Saturday, as Clayton Burke tossed six complete innings. He struck out eight batters and allowed no runs on just two hits. 

Justin Stedry came in relief in the final inning, picking up a pair of strikeouts. 

Joseph Weatherford got the scoring started in the second inning with a grand slam to centerfield. Zeb Wede and Tanner Sears both hit two-run home runs in the third and fourth innings respectively, making the score 9-0 in favor of Central Methodist. 

Game 3: No. 22 CMU 21 - Graceland 4

Central's offense exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning Sunday. The inning saw nine Eagles reach base via a hit including doubles from Negron, Diego Da Rin, Nichols, and Cerna Jr. 

The Eagles never looked back, as they finished the day scoring 21 runs on 19 hits. 

Negron had a monster day at the plate, batting four-for-four with eight total RBI, including three doubles and a grand slam. Weatherford followed with three hits in four trips to the plate while Da Rin drove in three runners. 

Foster Seitz pitched five complete innings, allowing two runs on six hits with a walk. He also struck out four batters. Alexander Billo tossed the final two innings, giving up two earned runs but striking out six. 

Game 4: No. 22 CMU 7 - Graceland 3

Central closed the series out with a 7-3 win in game four. The Eagles scored seven runs on 11 hits, highlighted by home runs from Nichols, Negron, and Conforti. 

Ray Ochoa threw five complete innings while striking out seven batters. Larry Riddle Jr. secured the save, tossing the final two innings.

The Eagles head out on the road for a four-game series against William Penn University beginning Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
