Eagles edge Grand View in Heart quarterfinals

Eagles edge Grand View in Heart quarterfinals

Fayette, Mo. – The No. 1 seeded Central Methodist women's soccer team moved on to the semifinals of the Heart Conference Tournament after defeating Grand View University by a final score of 1-0 Saturday night at Davis Field.

The first half was scoreless, but was contolled heavily by Central, who had 15 shots with eight being on frame against one shot taken by the Vikings.

The game winning goal for CMU came a little over 10 minutes into the second half when Nely Martinez crossed the ball and Andrea Villar tapped it into goal, propelling the Eagles to their 16th win of the season.

CMU was led by Andrea Villar who took six shots with four being on frame and one finding the back of the net. Elly Boothe followed with five shots with two being on target. Sara Cobollo and Zoe Jessen each collected four and two shots respectively.

The Eagles defense held the Vikings to only one shot the entire game. Sheila Sanchez played a full game in goal but didn't record any saves.

The Eagles will be back on Davis Field again to face Benedictine College Wednesday, April 7 at 5:00 p.m. in the Heart semifinals. The Ravens edged CMU by a score of 3-2 back on Sept. 16 in Atchison, Kan.
