
Kansas City, Mo. - The Central Methodist Track and Field do of Joana Vakasobuduru and Colder Evans earned Heart of America Weekly honors from the conference office Monday.
Vakasobuduru was named the Heart Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Evans took home Heart Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. It marks the first weekly honor for both athletes in 2025.
Vakasobuduru hit the 'B' standard for nationals in three events at the CMU Invite this past weekend. She was part of the 4x100m relay team that set a new school record with a time of 47.09 seconds, as well as the 4x400m relay (3:50.32), which placed third.
She rounded out track events by placing fourth in the 200m dash, clocking a time of 24.48 seconds.
Additionally, the native of Sigatoka, Fiji, competed and won the javelin with a school record throw of 39.61 meters, breaking the previous mark by almost two meters.
Evans competed in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. The senior from Unionville, Missouri, hit the 'B' standard in the shot put (16.13m) and the discus (50.88m), placing first in the latter.
He also finished second in the hammer with a throw of 53.16 meters.
Central will next compete in the Lincoln Open on Saturday, April 5, in Jefferson City, Missouri.
