
Seward, Neb. - The Central Methodist Track and Field program took part in their final indoor meet of 2024 at the Concordia Early Bird Open Saturday in Seward, Neb.
On the men's side, the throwing duo of Brayton Stephenson and Colder Evans finished 1-2 in the shot put with tosses of 16.61 and 15.97 meters respectively.
Stephenson's throw set a new personal best and solidified his spot as a national qualifier. Evans also earned a spot at the national championships, the first of his indoor career.
Chase Vickrey competed in the 60m hurdles, running a finals time of 8.39 seconds to finish third. Tyrone Summerall won the 600m run, clocking a time of 1:24.82.
In the 60m dash, Adam Trachsel ran a new personal best 6.91 seconds to win the race, while Charles Young ran the 200m dash in 22.72, finishing third.
For the women, Haley Bellamy and Zakia Porter finished 2-3 in the long jump, both achieving an identical PR of 5.57 meters.
Renee Finke secured her spot at nationals in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.65 meters to place second. Bellamy tallied a third place standing, reaching a height of 1.60 meters.
Parys Smith placed third in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.90 meters.
Newcomer Allena Rowland won the 600m run with a new personal best time of 1:35.64, booking her ticket to the national championship meet.
The duo of Zakiya Porter and Joana Vakasobuduru each ran PR's in both the prelims and the finals of the 60m dash. Porter won the finals with a time of 7.72 seconds, followed by a second place finish for Vakasobuduru in 7.76 seconds.
Vakasobuduru also won the 200m dash, clocking a time of 25.61 seconds for a new personal best. Porter placed third in the same event with a time of 25.75 seconds, also a personal best.
Dayana Montenegro was right behind Porter with a fourth place finish in 25.89 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team of Diane Ondobo, Montenegro, Vakasobuduru, and Rowland ran a national qualifying time of 3:51.37, winning the event.
Central will take the holiday off before returning to competition at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational Saturday, Jan. 11 in Columbia, Mo.
