Jolley's Career Day Highlights Eagles' Doubleheader Split with Cottey

Jolley's Career Day Highlights Eagles' Doubleheader Split with Cottey

Nevada, Mo. - The No. 4 Central Methodist Softball team secured a doubleheader split against Cottey College Wednesday afternoon in Nevada, Mo.

Central now stands at 18-3 overall while the Comets move to 12-10.

CMU dropped the first game by a score of 8-5, before rebounding with a 10-2 win in game two.

In game one, the Comets scored runs in each of the first three innings to take an 8-2 lead over Central. The Eagles plated three runs in the sixth inning with a two-RBI double from Kelena Oots and an RBI single from Kaysie Jolley to cut the deficit to three.

However, Central was unable to complete the comeback, as the Comets retired three of four Eagle batters in the seventh to secure the three-run victory.

Oots, Jolley, and Madison Roberts each picked up two hits including a solo home run for Jolley in the opening inning. Senior shortstop Madison White also homered in the first inning and drew a pair of walks.

In the second game of the doubleheader, both teams plated two runs in the first inning. Tied at 2-2, Central would score three runs in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the sixth to secure a run-rule victory in six innings.

Jolley had another monster day at the dish, as the reigning conference player of the week hit a career-best three home runs and drove in five total runners.

Lauren Hill hit a three-run home run in the third while Elizabeth Palumbo hit a solo shot in the fourth. Altogether, Central scored 10 runs on 10 hits, including six for extra bases.

Sophomore pitcher Jordyn Ball had another solid showing in the circle, as she pitched six complete innings and allowed just two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts. The Fayette standout improves her overall record to 9-0 in 2024.

The Eagles return home to host Clarke University for a doubleheader Saturday, March 23 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
